How creditors choose a path

Keep, place, or sell. A first slice beats a noisy whole book.

The wrong buyer turns a clean sale into complaints, residual calls in your name, and a messy recall. Screen before the tape moves. Triton already does this for the network; this page is the checklist if you are comparing desks.

Non-negotiables

  • An operating company with a reputation creditors will accept. RMAI or ACA membership is a plus, not required.
  • E&O and cyber insurance with limits that match the file size.
  • A named compliance owner and a written FDCPA / Reg F program.
  • Ability to fund on the PSA calendar.
  • NDA and a data-handling exhibit: where the file lives, who sees it, when it is destroyed if they lose the bid.

What Triton screens

The public buyer network is described as 200+ qualified buyers. Qualification is not a directory listing. Criteria, insurance, and capacity are reviewed before a match. See the creditors’ buyer guide and the buyer-facing qualification page.

Highest bid is not the same as best buyer. A shop that cannot fund or board will stall the close and leave residual noise.

Questions this page answers

Can we require extra conditions beyond Triton’s screen?

Yes. Put them in the PSA: states, media, insurance minimums, no litigating in your name.

Do you share the buyer’s consumer complaint history?

We screen operators. We are not a CFPB complaint warehouse. Ask counsel what you need in the PSA.

Should we pick the highest percent of face?

Not if the buyer cannot fund or board. A lower bid that funds and boards is a sale. A higher bid that stalls is not.
