Seller Packaging and Media
How creditors and sellers package a charged-off sale for DebtHub: data tape fields, media inventory, chain of title, and what makes buyers pass.
DebtHub · Seller pathway
Buyers do not bid a story. They bid a tape plus media. Packaging is the difference between a competitive process and a file that sits.
Minimum package
- Data tape with charge-off date, last-pay, balance, state, original creditor.
- Chain of title: how you own it, and every assignment if you are not the originator.
- Media inventory: statements, apps, COS, payment history. A percent-complete column helps even when the archive is incomplete.
- Known exclusions: BK, deceased, settled, out-of-statute if you track them.
- Sale structure: one-time or forward flow, and any reserve you need on timing.
What makes a bid evaporate
Missing charge-off dates, no last-pay, a broken assignment chain, and “media available on request” with no count. Buyers assume the worst and bid the worst. The public how to sell guide covers the full sequence; this page is the packaging layer inside DebtHub.
Field-level detail: data tape fields and account media checklist.
| If this is missing | Buyer assumption | What to do instead |
|---|---|---|
| Charge-off date | Vintage is unknown; extra legal risk | Pull from core or charge-off report |
| Last payment date | Skip cost is high | Even a last-pay flag by month helps |
| Assignment trail | You may not own it | Scan every bill of sale before the NDA goes out |
| Media percent | Archive is empty | Sample 25–50 accounts and count |
Questions this page answers
Do I need 100% media before you market the file?
No. You need an honest percent and a sample. Complete archives get tighter bids; undisclosed gaps get passes.
What if I am not the original creditor?
Show every assignment. Gaps in chain of title are the most common reason a bid dies after it looks “won.”
Can I exclude states or vintages?
Yes. Slice the tape before it ships. A clean smaller pool beats a noisy whole book.
