How buyers read a tape

NDA first. Then a working file. Bid with a unit.

These are the notes we repeat on calls. None of them replace counsel or your recovery model.

  1. Write the buying box before you ask for a tape. “Everything” is not a box.
  2. Put licenses and insurance in the first email. We will ask anyway.
  3. Read last-pay against charge-off date, not just average age.
  4. Count blank media fields. That count is your haircut.
  5. Bid with a unit. Percent of face or bps. Not “4.”
  6. Carve states you cannot board. Do not hope the PSA saves you.
  7. Calendar cut-off, not the day you finished importing CSV.
  8. File warranty claims with an account list, inside the window, on post-sale support.

Questions this page answers

What tip kills the most deals?

A bid with no unit and unstated media conditions.

What tip saves the most time?

A complete qualification pack on day one.

Is “we’ll license after close” ever fine?

Not for a working tape. Dated plan, then boarding, not the reverse.
